The third edition of Mind the Gap, entitled Recalculating. Computing territories and their analog actuators<\/em>, is part of a project of contemporary art in collaboration with Parco Basaglia, Gorizia, the place where in 1961 the eponymous Italian psychiatrist started his own therapeutic and social revolution. The exhibition focuses on technological infrastructures and the relationship between people and technology, investigated through works by artists Sofia Braga, Emilio Vavarella and KairUs, a collective of two artists – Linda Kronman and Andreas Zingerle.<\/p>\n

These works investigate the interaction between the real and the virtual worlds, reflecting on how the massive use of digital devices is inevitably changing our cognitive relationship with daily life. By bringing to the surface what happens beneath the shiny interface of the devices we use every day, the works on display here show the aesthetics and the rhetorics in action in the smart<\/em> and dumb<\/em> worlds, as well as their mutual contradictions, in order to deconstruct the illusions and false hopes of digital development.<\/p>\n

The “Mapping Smart Futures” workshop is promoted by the collective of artists KairUs.org (Andreas Zingerle and Linda Kronman) and by Davide Bevilacqua, curator and artist active in servus.at.<\/p>\n

The workshop explores methods capable of generating new forms of artistic research, especially in the context of digitization and the daily use of technology in the urban environment. Following previous academic and artistic research projects “Behind the Smart World” and “The Internet of Other People’s Thing” (in cooperation between servus.at and KairUs), the investigation continues on the relationship between cities and their citizens, and in particular on the technotopies of smart cities and their implementations.[\/vc_column_text][vc_separator type=”small” position=”left” color=”#000000″ thickness=”1″ width=”50″ up=”24″ down=”24″][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

\nMeeting entitled “Digital ecology, greenwashing and online sustainability” at the Sguerzi Room of the “Pier Paolo Pasolini” Civic Library in Pasian di Prato.<\/p>\n

It will be presented the research on the topic, developed by the artists Antonio Zingaro, Christina Gruber and Davide Bevilacqua.<\/p>\n

The presentation \u2013 promoted in collaboration with the P. P. Pasolini Library \u2013 will focus particularly on the practices of the so-called greenwashing, a term that indicates a series of marketing and communication activities aimed at advertising alleged sustainable behaviors by digital companies. Indeed, “being green” is not only a label applicable to products such as food, mobility, clothing or architecture, but also to the Internet.[\/vc_column_text][vc_separator type=”small” position=”left” color=”#000000″ thickness=”1″ width=”50″ up=”24″ down=”24″][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

\n“Internet and sustainability. Deconstructing digital greenwashing”
\nWorkshop moderated by Davide Bevilacqua, at the Ottagono Cultural Association, Via Marinelli 6, Codroipo<\/p>\n

On the Internet, sustainability is not only a label to be applied to products such as food, mobility, clothing or architecture, but it can also be used to certify the web itself. For the technology industry, green is the color of a growing euphoria for zero emissions and sustainable information technology which, however, is based on rhetorical practices belonging to the areas of digital marketing and self-representation. Over the past few years, companies such as Amazon, Facebook, Apple and Google have also started promoting their investments in data center 100% sustainability as additional reasons to trust their business and support their businesses. In addition to the “classic” Greenwashing practices, claiming their support for environmental motivations, these companies not only try to polish their image to increase profits. Through their very specific rhetoric, they push towards a re-centralization of the Internet, in which environmental activism is synonymous with “optimization” of the infrastructure.<\/p>\n

During the workshop we will discuss these issues and see how these strategies work and how to reconsider the environmental impact of the internet.
